My Statement
The image you just clicked, of "Weary Willi," representing the Hobos of the Great Depression, is to show gratitude and respect to both the work of Emmet Kelly Sr. and Henry Fonda, who played Emmet and Willi in a small theater piece influencing my young mind and heart.
The clown figure is derived out of the "rustic fool" characters of ancient Classical Greek theater. They were known as "sklero-paiktes" from "paizein" meaning to play like a child. In Roman theater, a term for clown was "fossor", literally "digger; labourer".
I find that this image is suggestive of what I do in the participation of manifesting images and words. I play like a child while digging into this world, this reality that presents itself to me, and work to organize this actiivity into some sort of expression in order to re-present it to my awareness. Presenting these works to you, and inviting your honest impressions of your reactions, what they stir up into your consciousness, is a way of continuing this process.
